the word is ennui.
so today dawned dark and rainy and windy, and i woke up in the mood to skip class entirely. well. i woke up several times, but then i got bored of trying to sleep. which was the only reason i went to class. which turned out to be a bad idea.so there i was, watching the raindrops splatter on the skylight, drumming a merry rhythm as the presentation went on (was it about TRIPS and AIDS, or falun gong, or some human rights issue again?) and desperately trying to alleviate my boredom (not that anybody's ever online at the unearthly hour of 12), when i realised that blogsurfing doesn't help, because everybody's more or less in the same slump of boredom, and the mood's infectious.
seriously. i'm on exchange, and i'm bored. granted, not as bored as i'd be back home, but the essays waiting to be written don't help with the mood. nor, strangely enough, do the upcoming holidays (although they are bound to be exciting and i will love them come december, but right now i just can't find the energy). it's wrong. i'm supposed to be having so much fun i forget to blog, instead, i'm doing the same thing i'd do during exam period back home. maybe it's cos i'm running out of cash. or nearby places to go.
and the funny thing is, while walking to school today, the thought occurred to me. why is it more fun to be snowed on than rained on? you end up the same degree of wet, and snow's a lot colder. but everyone loves snow. more than essays, at any rate. which reminds me, i should be getting back to writing them. but it's going to snow tomorrow. that should be interesting.
on a sidenote, chocolate is nice. hot chocolate is even better, but apparently you can't make that with non-fat milk. either that, or i need a microwave.
so until the snow arrives and i go photocrazy, i leave you with the view from my room (on sunnier days), where i've been merrily cooped up the past few days. and napping my afternoons away.
at least, until i hop over to philly and nyc next week.
