i'm still here. vaguely.

caught between surfing random blogs and reading legal theory, i decided to blog instead. nothing much. actually, there's quite a deal to say, but since it's all law related, i'll just shut up. since this was ultimately and essentially meant to be a diving based blog, replete with photos (which will come up once i decide to buy my underwater cam).

a few random thoughts (and in other news):

youtube has anime. and it's been killing me softly.

legal theory is like sand flowing through my fingers.

there's a party at attica on 3rd may, tickets going at $18.

law school has stolen my soul.

flying ants' mass suicide in temasek hall creates a huge mess.

i get easily distracted. . . what was i going to say again?

the simpler one's wants, the harder they are to fulfil.

till i next get bored, enjoy studying!

of legal theory and love...

it's amazing how these days, amidst the furious studying and mugging, we still find time for idle reflection and thought. or perhaps, in light of legal theory, not so after all. i find myself thinking too much these days, wondering why, how, and what. foreign concepts to a simple mind. okay...maybe just why. like why draw a line between natural law and positive law? and why wonder and debate endlessly about where law is derived from? then somehow, the discussions trail naturally to philosophy (unsurprisingly so), where familiar names like Hume, and Kant, and Aquinas pop up all over like old friends (*shudder*) in Sophie's World, which i was actually bored enough to re-read. (oh and in case you were wondering, the reason why you study legal theory is the same reason why philosophers spend all their life wondering about the greater mysteries of life: curiosity and an endless fascination with knowledge)

And in one of those airy ramblings of philosophy, i chanced upon Plato's Myth of the Cave, which caught my attention previously the last time i read it. basically, it explains life and philosophy, how you have this bunch of people chained up facing a wall, used to seeing the shadows of things walking past, then one of them gets free, sees the world as it really is, and after that, life is never quite the same again for him. (ok, so i paraphrase, and so i'm wrong. you want a more accurate version, follow the link above, and make of it what you will) and as much as this is an allegory of life, i wonder if it doesn't apply to love as well. how you never know what love is unless you've loved before. and once, having tasted love, you can never go back to the way things were before.

on a separate note: 3rd May 2006, wednesday night. mark this date well.

the life of a beach bum

exams are inching ever closer. and i spend my days bumming. or playing mahjong (but i've quit. really i have. for a while at least. till my luck regenerates) and amidst all this rush, i still find time for the simpler joys in life, such as planning my holiday program.

Holiday
Bali Trip (TBC)
Tioman
Dives
Perhentian + Redang (18 dives)
DiveComm Trip (chill on Aur...)
Live-on-Board (anyone interested? less than $500 for 4 days, forgot where)
DiveCamp'06 (anyone interested? basic OW $430, leisure $330 i think)

so essentially, i'll be breathing underwater or suntanning my holidays away. if i can afford it. on top of my dive camera. sigh. the life of a beach bum in the sun is rather expensive to maintain.
